It's time to throw away your outdated dictionary and Three Female Ghostsdust off those tiles, baby, because Scrabbleis getting some new words.

The folks behind Scrabbleare beefing up the official Scrabbleplayer's dictionary with 300 new words to keep up with the times and give veteran players some fresh verbs and nouns to memorize.

The 70-year-old board game will be putting out the sixth edition ofMerriam-Webster’s The Official Scrabble Player’s Dictionarythis fall, and although not all of the words are exactly new to the English-American lexicon, they're certainly new to the competitive word game.

Here is a sampling of some of the new words coming to Scrabble:

  • Emoji(noun)a small computer symbol used to express emotion

  • Ew(interjection) used to express disgust

  • Facepalm (verb) to cover the face with the hand

  • Macaron(noun)a cookie with filling in the middle

  • Puggle(noun)a kind of dog

  • Sriracha(noun)a spicy pepper sauce

In order to be added to the Scrabbledictionary, words have to fit within a few rules: "Words must be found in a standard dictionary and cannot be abbreviations, capitalized words, or words containing hyphens or apostrophes. All words must also be between two to eight letters in length."

The last edition of the Scrabble player's dictionary came out in 2014 and included words like beatbox, meh, and selfie. Scrabbleis keeping up with the times. Slowly. But it's still keeping up.
